How to Talk to the AI in ChanTan Studio

Type what you want and ChanTan builds it. Learn how to send a request, read the progress card, stop a build safely, and what every button in the chat does.

Last updated: Fri Aug 21 2026 07:00:00 GMT+0700 (Indochina Time)

The chat is the left-hand column of your project. You type what you want in plain words, and your app changes on the right. There is no code to write and nothing to learn first.

The chat works exactly the same on a phone as on a computer.

1. Click into the message box

The box at the bottom of the chat says "Describe your app...". Click it and start typing.

Shortcut: ⌘ K (Mac) or Ctrl K (Windows) jumps your cursor into the box from anywhere on the page.

2. Describe what you want in normal words

Write it the way you'd say it to a person: "add a contact page with a form", "make the header dark blue", "build me a bakery site with an online order form".

Be specific about the things that matter to you — a colour, a name, a page. Anything you leave out, ChanTan decides for you.

3. Press Send

Press Enter, or click the round blue ▲ button ("Send message").

Shift + Enter adds a new line instead of sending.

⚠️ Arabic, Chinese, Japanese or Korean keyboard? Pressing Enter to accept a suggested word does not send your message — it only finishes the word. Your text is safe.

The send button tells you what will happen before you press it:

Button What pressing it does
Blue ▲ — "Send message" Sends now
Amber list icon — "Queue message" ChanTan is busy; your message waits in line
Violet clipboard — "Send — get a plan (nothing will be built)" You get a plan to approve; nothing is built
Red ■ square — "Cancel generation" ChanTan is working; this stops it

4. Watch it work

Your message appears as your own bubble straight away. A ChanTan bubble replies "Reading your message…", then turns into a live description of what it is actually doing — "Building", "Generating images", and so on, in your language.

For first builds and big changes you also get a progress bar with a step count ("Step 3 of 7") or an estimate ("Estimated time: 2-4 min").

The bar moves on work actually completed, not on a clock. It never goes backwards, and it deliberately never shows 100% until the work is genuinely finished. While the bubble is glowing blue, ChanTan is still working.

Photos being made appear as tiles marked "Creating" then "Ready", counted as "Image 4 of 15".

5. Read the finished reply

A short chime plays when the build finishes — bright when it worked, soft and low when it failed. (Turn it off with ➕ → "Finish sound: on/off".)

Done! Your app on the right has changed, and the reply carries small buttons you can open:

Button What it shows
"Show steps" Every task that was completed
🖼 "Show photos" The photos made in that run
"Show build story" The full story of the work
"…" A receipt: files created and updated, when it started, whether a version was saved, and the credits that reply used
🐞 "Report a problem with this reply" Tells us when a reply was wrong

You may also get up to three suggestion chips under "Suggested next" — clicking one fills the box so you can edit it before sending.

Stopping a build

While ChanTan works, the send button becomes a red square ("Cancel generation"). Press it to stop.

  • Everything already finished is kept. Nothing is rolled back or thrown away.
  • Your message gets a line through it and a red "Cancelled" mark.
  • What you typed comes back into the box, so you can change a word and send again.
  • Any waiting messages pause — they are never deleted.
  • No chime plays.

ChanTan replies: "⏹ Stopped. I kept everything I finished before you stopped me — nothing else will change. The cost shown covers only the completed work."

You are charged only for the work that was actually completed. If a run never really started, nothing is charged at all.

If tasks were left unfinished, a "▶ Continue where I stopped (3 tasks)" button appears under the reply. Pressing it picks up from that exact point instead of starting over.

Cards that wait for your answer

Sometimes ChanTan puts a card in the chat and pauses until you answer it. The four you'll meet most:

Card What to do
Questions Tap the options, type your own, or press "Skip all" to let ChanTan choose sensibly
Plan Read it, then "Approve & build", "Edit plan", "Replan" or "Not now" — a plan changes nothing until you approve
Copy card (a login or password ChanTan made) Press "Copy" and save it somewhere. It's also kept under "Manage""Chat history, logins & files"
Rewrite warning ChanTan was about to rewrite most of your project. The safe answer is "Cancel — keep my project as-is (recommended)"

When Send is greyed out

Three reasons, and only three: the box is empty, your live preview is still starting up (wait a few seconds), or you are out of credits.

With no credits the box is disabled entirely, the placeholder changes to "Top up credits to continue...", and a red "Add credit" link appears — that link is the top-up flow. At 250 credits or fewer you get a "Low balance" link instead and can keep working. Both open billing in a new tab, so your work is never interrupted.

If something goes wrong

What you see What to do
🌙 "Your app is sleeping" Not an error. Press "Wake up" — it's free
"Connection lost — reconnecting..." Nothing. Your build keeps running and the chat catches up
"That first attempt hit a snag on our side — picking it back up now." Nothing. ChanTan is restarting it for you
"The server didn't start responding within 3 minutes. Please try again." Send the message again. Nothing was charged
"The generation stream went silent for 20 minutes…" Send again. Everything already written is saved
"The AI service is temporarily busy. Your work is saved…" Wait 1-2 minutes, then continue. Not your fault
"Build unsuccessful" Press "Try to fix". Your preview is already showing your last working version
"We couldn't load this conversation. Your messages are safe — this is a connection problem." Press "Retry". Nothing is lost

A build that dies unexpectedly is picked back up automatically, up to two times, with your original message and photos intact. Simply reloading the page also heals a stuck project.

Honest limits

  • Some messages are still English-only, even when your studio is set to Arabic, French, Spanish or Thai — the "Stopped" reply and most upload errors. Nothing is broken; the meaning is the same.
  • Builder names and their descriptions are also shown in English in every language. The row under the box shortens them to the last word plus the beta tag, so "Chantan Pro" appears there as "Pro BETA" ("Max BETA", "Ultra BETA" for the other two). All three are tagged Beta — see choosing a builder.
  • ChanTan sometimes touches a file you didn't mention, because your request depends on it. Every reply that changed files leaves an Undo point.
