How to Attach Photos and Documents in ChanTan Studio
Send ChanTan your logo, a design to copy, a PDF or a spreadsheet and it builds from them. Learn the limits, the file types, and the free project knowledge base.
Showing beats describing. Send ChanTan your logo, a screenshot of a design you like, a PDF price list or a spreadsheet, and it builds from what it sees.
1. Press the ➕ button
It sits at the bottom-left of the message box — "Add attachment". Press Esc or click outside to close the menu.
It's greyed out while your live preview is still starting. Wait a few seconds.
2. Choose what you're sending
| Menu item | Use it for |
|---|---|
| "Knowledge base" | Permanent rules for this project (free — see below) |
| "Attach file" | PDFs, spreadsheets, text, audio and video |
| "Attach image" | Photos, logos, screenshots, a design to copy |
| "Finish sound: on / off" | The chime that plays when a build finishes |
3. Attach your photos
Press "Attach image" and pick up to 5 photos per message.
Thumbnails appear above the box with a red ✕ on each and a counter: "2/5 photos", and at the limit "5/5 photos (max)".
Every photo is shrunk automatically before sending, so a big phone photo doesn't slow you down. Photos that are already small are left completely untouched. You never have to resize anything yourself.
Quicker way: drag photos straight onto the message box. The area tints blue and shows "Drop images here". Only images are picked up — anything else in the same drag is ignored.
4. Or attach documents
Press "Attach file". A chip with the file name appears above the box; the small ✕ removes it.
Accepted: PDF, CSV, TSV, Excel (.xlsx, .xls), plain text, Markdown, JSON, and audio/video (.mp3, .wav, .m4a, .ogg, .mp4, .webm).
ChanTan reads documents and can wire audio and video into your app. Try things like "make a dashboard from this spreadsheet" or "put these products from the PDF on my shop page".
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Files per message | 5 |
| Photos per message | 5 |
| Document, spreadsheet or text file | 15 MB each |
| Audio or video file | 40 MB each |
| Uploads per day, per person | 200 files, or 500 MB in total |
5. Say what to do with them
An attachment on its own isn't an instruction. Add a line of text: "use this as the logo in the header", "copy this layout for my home page", "read this PDF and build the menu page from it".
6. Press Send
✅ Done! Your message appears with its thumbnails or file chips attached, and ChanTan starts working with them. Photos it creates from your reference appear as tiles marked "Creating" then "Ready".
The project knowledge base (free, and it never expires)
This one is worth five minutes of your time. It holds permanent rules ChanTan follows on every single build and edit of this project.
- Press ➕ → "Knowledge base".
- Write your rules, short and specific.
- Press "Save".
The window explains it: "Rules the AI will follow every time it builds or edits this project. Keep them short and specific — they carry more weight than long paragraphs."
Good examples:
- "Never change the logo or the brand name."
- "Brand color is #0A66FF. Use it for all primary buttons."
- "All text must be in Arabic."
Up to 8,000 characters — a counter under the box shows the room left. Saving rules is free.
Very long briefs become a file automatically
Past 45,000 characters you'll see "📎 Long brief — it will be attached as a file automatically".
When you press Send, ChanTan splits your brief into up to 6 files (about 120,000 characters in total), cutting only at paragraph breaks so no sentence is broken and nothing is lost — then reads every part in order.
If your brief is longer even than that, you get a clear message asking you to send it as separate messages per phase, and nothing is sent and nothing is charged.
If something goes wrong
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| "Up to 5 documents at a time." | Send the rest in a follow-up message |
| "Could not attach that file." | Try again; check the type and size |
| "Can't attach ".xyz" files. Supported: PDF, Excel, CSV, text, and audio/video (mp3, mp4…)." | Convert it to PDF or text first |
| "That file is over 15 MB — please attach a smaller one." | Compress or split it (40 MB for audio and video) |
| "Daily upload limit reached. Please try again tomorrow." | You hit 200 files or 500 MB today — continue tomorrow |
| "One of the attached photos is too large to send…" | Remove it and attach a smaller JPG or PNG |
| "Couldn't attach your brief as a file — nothing was sent. Please try again." | Send again. Nothing was charged |
Honest limits
⚠️ Attachments on a queued message don't survive a page refresh. The text comes back, the photos and files don't. Re-attach them with ➕ before you press Play.
- Several of these error messages currently appear in English even when your studio is set to Arabic, French, Spanish or Thai. The meaning is unchanged.
- A photo attached to a message is a reference for the AI. To swap a picture already on your page, it's faster to click it in the preview and press "⬆ Replace" — that's free.
