Build Stuck or Failed in ChanTan Studio: What to Do
Your build stopped, froze on Thinking, or says Build unsuccessful? What each message means, how to resume it in one click, and why your credits are safe.
A build that stops looks scary. It almost never is.
Three things are true of every interrupted build in ChanTan Studio:
- Everything already finished is saved. ChanTan never throws away work that already landed.
- You are charged only for the work that was actually completed. Credits held for the rest come back on their own.
- Your preview keeps showing your last working version, so nothing you already had is broken.
1. Read the first line of the message
Find the last message in the chat and read only its first line. That line tells you which situation you're in.
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| "⏹ Stopped. I kept everything I finished before you stopped me…" | You pressed Stop. Nothing else will change. |
| "The AI service is temporarily busy. Your work is saved — give it a moment and continue from here." | The AI service was overloaded for a moment. Not your fault, not your wording. |
| "Something went wrong on my side just now — give it a moment and try again." | A problem on our side. |
| "The server didn't start responding within 3 minutes. Please try again." | The build never started. |
| "The generation stream went silent for 20 minutes…" | Twenty minutes of complete silence. |
| "That first attempt hit a snag on our side — picking it back up now. Your message and photos are still here." | ChanTan is already restarting it for you. |
| "Build unsuccessful" | The code had an error that couldn't be repaired automatically. |
| Nothing at all — the chat just stopped moving | The build may have died quietly. |
2. If it says it's picking the work back up, do nothing
ChanTan notices a silent build by itself and restarts it — up to two times automatically, with your message and your photos intact.
Just wait. There is nothing for you to press.
3. Look for the "Continue where I stopped" button
If the build has definitely ended, look in the chat for "▶ Continue where I stopped" and press it.
This is the cheapest way to carry on, because it keeps everything the AI already knew about your project.
If that button isn't there, just type a short message instead: "continue" or "carry on from where you stopped".
4. If it said "temporarily busy", wait 1–2 minutes first
Overload clears on its own. Give it a minute or two, then press Continue or send "continue".
5. If the chat seems frozen on "Thinking…", reload the project page
A wedged project unsticks itself, and the recovery check runs every time the page loads. Give it about 3 minutes after the reload.
⚠️ Reloading never loses your chat, your files or your project. They're stored on our side.
6. If it says "Build unsuccessful", press "Try to fix"
Press "Try to fix" in the chat. Your preview is deliberately still showing your last working version, so nothing your visitors see is broken.
If two attempts fail:
- Press "Show details" and copy the text.
- Paste it into the chat with: "this is the build error, please fix it".
- Or use Undo and rebuild the same thing in smaller steps.
7. If the same request dies three times, break it up
Ask for one feature per message. A long request with five features in it has five ways to go wrong; five short requests almost always get through.
✅ Done. The chat is moving again, your earlier work is still in the preview, and the balance in the header shows only the credits for work that was actually completed.
"Too many requests" and "the service is busy"
These are different from a failed build. They're guard rails that keep ChanTan fast for everyone, or a short maintenance pause on one feature. They clear by themselves and nothing about your projects or data is affected.
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| "You're sending requests too quickly. Give it a moment and try again." | Stop clicking. Wait under a minute. |
| "You've reached today's message limit. It resets at midnight UTC." | Wait for the reset. |
| "You are creating builds too quickly. Please wait a moment and try again." | Wait a moment, then send it once. |
| "Another run is still working — try again when it finishes." | Let the current build finish. |
| "Builds are temporarily paused for maintenance. Please try again shortly." | A planned pause. Try again shortly. |
| "The platform is at today's capacity. Please try again later." | Try later. Nothing is wrong with your project. |
| "Planning Mode is temporarily unavailable. Turn Plan off to build normally." | Take the alternative it offers — turn Plan off. |
| "Request timed out. The server may be restarting — please try again." | Momentary. Send it again. |
| "You have reached the maximum number of projects…" | Move projects you've finished with to the bin — binned projects don't count toward the cap. |
Three rules that save you time here:
- Daily limits reset at midnight UTC. Not at your local midnight.
- A message you sent while a build was running was queued, not lost. You'll see it above the input box with Play, Pause and drag-to-reorder. Do not resend it.
- Everything except the named feature keeps working — carry on with the rest of your project.
What this costs you
Nothing you didn't use.
Before a build, credits are reserved — your available balance temporarily looks smaller, and that's a hold, not a charge. When the build ends (finished, failed, or stopped by you), the reservation settles to the real cost and the unused part returns automatically.
⚠️ There is no "credits refunded" popup. Don't wait for a notification — check your balance in the header and the credit activity list on the Wallet page.
When to contact support
Email support@chantan.studio when:
- The same build error happens 3 times in a row — retrying won't help.
- Every request keeps dying for more than about 30 minutes.
- A "temporarily unavailable" message lasts more than an hour.
- A credit reserve is still held more than 48 hours after your last build.
Include these five things — it saves a whole round trip:
- Your account email
- The project name
- The exact message you saw (copy it, or attach a screenshot)
- Roughly when it happened, and your timezone
- What you had just done before it appeared
Faster than email: if you can still open the project, press "🐞 Report a problem with this reply" on the reply that went wrong. It sends us the details of that exact build along with your report.
Honest limits
- ChanTan retries a silent build twice, not forever. After that it's your Continue button.
- "Build unsuccessful" doesn't always fix itself — sometimes the honest answer is to Undo and ask for the same thing in smaller pieces.
- Support can't make a busy AI service less busy; those spells genuinely clear on their own.
